I don’t listen to a lot of this kind of fiction, but this one is very well done. The world is well developed with a lot of depth in the characters and culture. There is the right amount of mystery as the main characters bumble their way through surviving monsters, politics and a petulant god mentor. If all the game related material was pulled out, it would hold up well as standard fantasy.
This is definitely a sequel and leaves you hanging for part three. It does not stand alone well.
The book is very well narrated Jeff Hays who helps give the characters personality.
