I have no issues at all with the writing or narration both are excellent at their crafts. My issue is with the disconnect between the author and the reader.
I fell in love with the MC in book one and I came to dislike Zach and his girlfriend during that book because is the “for the greater good” type and let his girlfriend and crones drive a wedge between Ryun (not Shure if that’s the correct spelling of his name) and himself. I think this was the authors goal anyway so it was ok when there were several chapters focused on him in the last book. Let’s be clear though almost all lovers of cultivation novels prefer a single character focus novel over any other kind. this is because that’s what cultivation is all about, getting to see a character grow while he is grinding levels and defeating powerful enemies. This book has been mainly focused on a disliked side character, new random side stories, and many other random characters that all have entire chapters. meanwhile while I’m listening to all these random characters I care nothing for I’m wondering what Ryun is doing. I am no longer invested into the entire story. ive waited a while for book 2 and even pre ordered it (first time I’ve done that) just to get a book that is only at best focused on my favorite character 30% of the time. I’m returning this.
