“Instant Chaos” is in the upper eschaton of EMP survival series. It’s clean, and the tension is taut. A group thrown together, not necessarily by choice, but learning to survive. And learning to. let others in. The second installment finds Abram, Nick, Shelly, Corey, and the others learning to trust those around them. Raiders are making their way around their compound, and they know there aren’t enough people to fight off invaders. But after the debacle with Gary, trusting new people isn’t easy. The stakes stay high throughout the book. But it’s never outlandish or over dramatic. Just true to life. Russell and Holden are a great writing team, especially in this genre.

Kevin Pierce makes the reader feel what the characters must feel at all times. The stakes are always fever pitch. But yet, he’s the calm the reader seeks too. It’s perfection.
