This is definitely my favorite book in the series so far. Richard O’Reagan is messed up, sure, but I like him. I like how he embraces his role as a king and tries to do right by his brother and cousin, even when they don’t completely reciprocate.

As for his obsession with Claire, I really like the several turns that takes. She’s fighting her own demons of the past and present. I appreciate her honesty and spirit. Her love of wounded animals fits Richard more perfectly than I imagined.

Liam, Jack and Richard’s father, continues to out maneuver the other puppets… er… kings. It’s an interesting dynamic and leads to the final twist. I don’t like Liam and do look forward to his demise when it finally happens. Very soon, I hope.

I received an author’s copy of the audio book. The narrators are Scott Rose and Ada Sinclair. I love the accents and overall narration!
