This was such a sweet and heartwarming second chance romance. Maddie Emery and Lucas Rivers have been best friends all their lives. Maddie was sure they would marry one day and have a beautiful life like her parents. But in high school, when Lucas became the star quarterback, he became arrogant and self centered as well. He left for college never looking back. Maddie supported him through it all, even though he broke her heart. Now Lucas is home after an injury and he is not proud of the man he was. He missed where he came from and he especially missed Maddie. Now he is determined to make things right and convince her that he will never leave or break her heart again. Maddie is shocked to see Lucas home again. She moved on with her life, determined to never let a man make her feel bad about herself again. But Lucas makes her feel things she didn’t want to feel, and she isn’t sure she could survive him leaving again. I really enjoyed this friends to lovers romance. It has all the feels, great secondary characters, and a sweet and heartwarming storyline.

Sarah Puckett does a terrific job capturing each characters personality. Her voice changes were distinct and her intonations were spot on, bringing this story to life, and making it an enjoyable listen.
