So, this series is both disparaging and insulting, breaking the fourth wall to harangue the reader, and yet, is still surprisingly crass and funny. As I write this, I’m currently listening to book two, which doubles down on the previous complaint/compliment. The author manages to say some seriously offensive things in such a way that they are hilarious, rather than insulting, hence the surprise. As a reader, I never felt attacked, even though the words were attacking. And the writer never attacks any one social group, which is why it is so funny. You can’t tell from the story what political party the author is, which is unusually welcome. The most offended I got was about the Oxford Comma, naturally, since I am an editor. Honestly, I’m still laughing about that. Anyway, if you are a fan of supervillains and crass, brash humor, this is a series you should read. It’s like C.T. Phipps meets Deadpool. I’m already a huge fan of Kafer as a narrator, so this was an easy purchase for me. Well done, guys.
