I normally shy away from novels that include a harem and, especially if it includes a beastkin in the bunch but I decided to give a try since I really like Jeff Hays as a narrator. It’s a mixture of super powers, gaming leveling up elements, mercantilism, corporate management in a city taken over by a major criminal element and run somewhat like a libertarian form of governance.
This is definitely adult themed, primarily due to the brutality and questionable morality in play but the author did a great job of laying out the various characters backstories with ample amounts of humor and horror.
The ability to revive the dead, not ‘mostly dead’ as in Princess Bride but completely dead, was a bit if a shark jump but considering that it also includes soul suckers, how much of a stretch is it to take it one step further?
The ending was a bit of a letdown since it left a fairly large cliff-hanger after an epic battle in which the protagonist lost almost everything but managed to survive.
As I said, it’s a fun book.
