E. A. Copen topic is not all that distinct for other books exploring contemporary occult genre. The MC, Laz, is a relatively obscure necromancer who ekes-out a modest income as owner of a magic shop in New Orleans selling magic trinkets and providing an occasional seance when death quite literally finds itself at his doorstep. The story moves forward in an agreeable manner as Laz, with his arcane skills and the begrudging help of a magic-skeptical police detective, attempt to solve the mystery behind this and other murders that follow. There are some plot twists but the culprits was (intentionally?) fairly obvious early on with the difficulty being in finding the evidence against them.

Travis Baldree’s performance was well-done.
