I’m a huge TJ Klune fan so I won’t get into how much I love his writing and how his stories have the ability to make me go from laughing out loud to crying within the span of a few sentences again. I say those things every time I review one of his books and this one is no exception. I absolutely adored Wolfsong, the first book in the series and have probably read or listened to it at least six times (it’s an all-time favorite of mine). I wasn’t sure that I’d enjoy the next book as much, I wasn’t sure if it was even possible. However, Ravensong, book two, definitely did not disappoint, it was great. I loved getting Gordo and Mark’s story. But while it was definitely a great read it was also a huge emotional rollercoaster.
TJ writes some of the best tearjerkers and angsty reads and sometimes I just need a good story that makes me rage, swoon, cry or laugh all at once. So I know I’m going to be in luck when I pick up one of his stories. Kirt Graves narrative delivered on the pain and the heartbreak, the up and down emotions and the raw intensity of the characters and their story. I was so impressed with his delivery and interpretation.
Gordo’s character was amazing in Wolfsong and I truly loved him however after learning how deep and dark his story with the Bennett pack really was in Ravensong I grew even more enamored by him. He made me laugh and he broke my heart, I swear his sorrow and pain was palpable. There were many times I waffled between hugging him and in some cases throttling him, but I loved him.
As I’ve said before, Mark truly surprised me. Still waters run deep with that man at times. He definitely pissed me off on more than one occasion and then he’d turn around and make my heart ache for him. Seeing him grow and evolve from awkward adolescent to wary man really emphasize how much he went through and sacrificed for Pack and family. I just adore him.
Mark and Gordo have incredible chemistry and I absolutely love them together. From first meetings to the drama surrounding events from book one and the events we get to see leading up to book one, they just felt so real to me. As great as they were together though it was great learning who they were individually as well as who they were to the pack.
Overall, if you love TJ Klune, if you enjoyed Wolfsong, you’ll most definitely love Ravensong. Kirt Graves is a perfect narrator for this series of audiobooks and that combined with great writing from TJ makes a highly recommendable story. There’s action and drama, steamy and sweet and of course, heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. A lot of the story takes place at the same time as Wolfsong but this time we get to see it from Gordo’s POV. There’s also a lot of great backstory we needed and wanted and of course, we get to see how the Bennett pack is functioning today.
I definitely recommend!
