I’m not faulting the narrator in any way. They had a job and they did it well. However once I got into the “Character Creation” scene and the Main character picked half elf ranger as what they’d play as I instantly lost all interest. Not only did you cringe away from the elf stereotype, but you still wanted that ‘special snowflake non-human role’ so you went halfsies. could’ve picked dwarf or gnome. They’re pretty human like. Could’ve stuck with plain human and made it work as well. The only thing more cringe then basic elf is half assing your way into half elf.

maybe you could’ve made up for it by picking an interesting class, but then you went ranger. Ranger of all things! The most unsurprising, unappealing, and basic combination with elves and half elves. I immediately stopped the book and fully intend on refunding it.

the only reason I have rated lower is that the build up before the grand reveal of unoriginal story telling was actually good.
