First person POV makes the writer force the protagonist into distracting political position. Stereotypes are obnoxiously apologized for mid-text. Should Make characters that are interesting because of their actions, not their PC beliefs. Being a believer in something non-PC is should not be a disqualification for a protagonist. Spend half the book figuring out the rules of time travel just to have them thrown out in the climax and new rules written. Protagonists actions essentially nonconsequential by the end.
