I almost returned this book because it starts off as a bad stereotype of “bullied geek” with a narrator who sounds like he’d rather be doing anything else. I at least waited until he logged into his game (that he had pre-ordered and had been waiting for, but somehow forgot was coming out?) and he started off with a chaotic evil alignment. That peaked my interest enough to keep me going, and I’m glad I did. The out-of-game story is still a bit cliche, but the in-game story is very different from other books I’ve read in the genre and kept me reading until the end.
