Some of the plot tools are worn out and detract from the story though. This trope has life left in it, but this dude may not be capable of bringing it. Planes won’t fall from the sky from an EMP attack that leaves old jeeps running. Nuclear fallout would be a much bigger deal than in this series. Iranians working with North Korea?!? Seriously? If you’re going to include lines about the US constitution, read it first. Why is it that in these prepper books there is always so much right wing political vitriol, but yet the heros are always forming communes like a bunch of new age marxists? You can call it whatever PC name you want, but that is what a “mutual assistance group” is.
