Sometimes it’s fun to be the bad guy or at least here a story told from their point of view. MK Gibson’s Villains Rule is really fun tale. He’s taken some of the best known fantasy tropes and openly mocked them in a way that works very well. Our protagonist is The Shadow Master, a bad guy who usually works behind the scenes assisting other villains rise to power, but in this case he’s double crossed (several times) and ends up needing to assemble a band of heroes to be his allies to not only survive but to regain his powers. He’s great character, constantly breaking the 4th wall and speaking directly to the reader, much like the comic book characters Deadpool and She-Hulk. It’s a fun story, with some decent action and solid pacing. Jeffrey Kafer’s narration is as always top notch.
