Space Force. The shiny dream of a certain controversial president. Finally a reality, its now on its last legs years later. Finally defunded by Congress, the staff that’s left, mostly misfit rejects from the various service branches, are about to be cashiered out. This includes the actual competent ones, such as former SEAL Ethan Stone, and Air Force fighter pilot Jennifer Hale. As they face imminent release from the Space Force, the unthinkable happens: Aliens invade! In what has to be the strangest invasion ever, aliens set up a battleground at the Space Force base, surrounded by a slowly closing force field, basically like an MMO game like Fortnite. While Hale leads a strike on the Alien mother ship, Ethan and a small continent of what was left of Space Force must fight off the much more technologically advanced aliens, with the fate of the world at stake.
The plot is fast paced, playing with a lot of the tropes of sci fi, the military and alien invasions, not to mention MMO games. The characters, of which Ethan and Jennifer are the mains, are fun and realistic to the situation, with good dialogue and character development throughout. The villains are basically generic mobs of the kind seen in any video game, so no grand scheming mastermind in this one. Its a fun story that will keep you laughing ll the way through.
On the narrations side, Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job creating unique character voices for the crew. He has excellent narrative pacing and it just flows along smoothly. Another fine performance on his part.
