There is a fair amount of game mechanics. I won’t say that elements are borrowed from other books, but most of the elements in this book are familiar from other books in this genre. I think the narration is pretty good throughout the story from multiple voice actors. The only performance that I didn’t really care for was that of the MC. I felt that if the character was voiced in a less duncy manner the story would have been much more enjoyable. The tone in which his lines were read made him seem naive, dim witted, and not at all in line with his actions. Imagine Michael Cera being the voice of Jeremy Renner… it doesn’t fit. I did enjoy the story as a whole, despite the MC getting hurt in every single fight. Whether it was a rat or a dragon, or everything in between, the MC was going to take damage. I will be checking out the next book, it was good enough to grind out a few more levels.
