This book offers a fun interpretation of familiar pop sci-fi themes. As someone who typically prefers hard sci-fi, I appreciated the softer approach, which spared me from lengthy, detailed explanations of propulsion systems for the thousandth time. Don’t get me wrong, I love that stuff but it’s nice to experience something else now and again. Additionally, the author’s familiarity with firearms, or research into them, added a layer of authenticity that’ll keep knowledgeable readers from being abruptly pulled out of the narrative. It’s a solid pick if you’ve run out of recommendations or are looking for an “Aliens get their butts kicked by the humans they underestimated” type story.
