Following the confrontation with Angel and the introduction of Mother in the first book Gideon, Grace and Veronique take the fight to them in this sequel. Looking to take down other facilities and free other mutants they head South and look for tips along the way. They encounter some new threats and make some new allies, while also expanding on both ours and their understanding of their abilities and the power of their villains.

Since this picks up so soon after the first book, Gideon is still at a loss for how to proceed which leads the trio to take risks and get into situations that maybe if this took place some time down the road they wouldn’t. I think it is worked for this book, but I hope they get some time in between to grow as a group and individuals. We get to see a new mutant in the form of Dorian Grey (not the one you may be thinking of), and she has a cool power set that gets used in some fun ways. We also get further explanation on Grace’s and Veronique’s abilities, and some things come to light that was hinted at in the first book. The end of the book sets up for what should be a big confrontation in the third entry in the series. The power set of the characters is insane and short of getting muted by something I can’t even imagine what can stack up to them. It will be interesting to see what Harmon Cooper throws in front of the next.

The production by the Soundbooth Theater guys was great as usual, and the full cast narrations are getting better each and every time out. Loved the voices by everyone, and each one of them can easily carry a book on their own, and play off each other so well that it makes for a lot of fun just listening to them put on their performances.

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review
