Though not as gritty and action packed as many of the others, the Days of Want series is a great addition to any collection. The characters in this series are super prepared, in a way that 99 percent of the world population would never be. That’s not a bad thing, because it makes for an interesting perspective. Maddie and Zach, brother and sister, are being looked after by their family friend, and fellow super prepper, Ryan and his clan.
After being at Ryan’s home, the group is soon forced out. Maddie and Zach’s mother Beth is traveling to meet them. They are met with the usual disasters, but every character is more than prepared. Just enjoying the characters, and seeing as how our world has already eclipsed the violence in this series, it’s enjoyable to read about people who care about and for each other. And to see them work together to survive. It’s great escapist fun.
As always, Kevin Pierce is the anchor here. The voice of the apocalypse never waivers. Listening to him is like spending time with a close friend. So comforting. Can’t wait for book 3.
