3.5
The conceit of a player being ambushed by his “allies” and forced to start over as a goblin is unusual enough to provide quite a bit of interesting conflict and story. The protagonist experiences significant change throughout the story, and the supporting cast is developing into a complex and sympathetic group.
The combat and training scenes have enough variety to maintain interest and are well-written. And the addition of a significant base-building element helps the story’s depth.
That said, the game/world here is a bit routine, with the usual sort of powers, monsters, and races, and the overall writing is more serviceable than brilliant.
Still recommended for fans of LitRPG.
