I am utterly disappointed with this series. In fairness I never made it through book two. Why? Because the main “love interest” in the story, Eliot, is blatantly mentally ill and regardless, or because of it, the protagonist of the story, Knight, is utterly attracted to him and has sex with him, even though HE KNOWS AND ADMITS THIS GUY IS CRAZY. I have no words for how disturbing this is. I kept listening hoping that somehow the author might give me a way to determine that Eliot is actually of sound mind, just a little confused. But all the author kept doing was showing more and more examples of how Eliot is even more mentally ill and in need of serious medical intervention.
I am not someone who feels that mental illness precludes being able to love someone or be loved. I’m not against reading stories, romance or otherwise, where one of the main characters is mentally ill. What I cannot stomach is the level of mental illness, where the person is obviously not of sound mind, and someone takes advantage of that, is turned on by that, and doesn’t see anything wrong with doing so.
Joel Leslie gives an amazing performance. I just wish the material had been worthy of him.
