So I didn’t read the blurb on this one, 70 hours for 1 credit was just too good a deal to pass up. It had so many 5 star reviews I figured why not?

I was pleasantly surprised when I realized a regular biker club romance was mythical/supernatural. I was down with the time traveling & the demons. There was so much to want to like about this series. It definitely hooked me enough to finish.

But at the same time there was so much that was problematic. I can totally get down with humiliation & shame kinks, but so much wasn’t discussed or consented to! Var’s was the only character who acknowledged bdsm & power structures in a healthy manor. Every other power structure & dynamic was super problematic & unhealthy. The only thing that kept me from DNFing was the fact is was SO other worldly even tho it’s set in a current contemporary timeline, I had to suspend disbelief & see it as an elseworlds.

I don’t know if the author is exploring these kinks on her own and not sure of the damage unsafe play can have. Or she just doesn’t care. But man a lot of this was hard to stomach. Also the pen name is gross.

Joel Leslie using a Christopher Walkin impression for Magpie was SO bad I couldn’t help but laugh every time the character was speaking. It completely ripped me out of the story in its complete ridiculousness.

So a lot of story for a single credit I would say is worth it. But I had to speed the narration up to 1.4x and completely let things that genuinely bothered me go to enjoy it.
