Wow. This is my first Clive Barker story and damn was it good. Disturbing, but good. For those of you that do not know, this story is the inspiration for the movie Hellraiser and the imagery is the stuff of nightmares.
One thing to know going in is that Barker likes to mix sexuality and horror into a terrifying macabre experience. And boy does he nail it. What happens when life can no longer give you the pleasure you seek? What hells does the quest for pleasure take a person to and what happens to the poor souls caught in the whirlwind of insatiable desire? Read it and find out. You won’t be disappointed.
Just remember, “No tears, please. Tears are a waist of good suffering.”
