I have several things I like and dislike about the series so far;

– The basic story is okay. There isn’t much that is unique about the basic storyline. I like that the players have the ability to create new spells. It’s only about midway through this book that the players start using more than just couple of spells.

– The storyline makes 40-50 yrs out as nothing. Yes the book spans 360 years but training and have body parts torn off repeatedly for that amount of time would break anyone. So the power leveling they use in this book is a bit outlandish. On a side note, the number of years they power leveled to try and make it to the top of the world tree… They are almost half way through the games update, so is it going to be worth the pain and effort they put into leveling?!?

– I dislike the massive jumps in years. A chapter begins with 45 years later. Yes there is a huge time frame to cover but I still don’t care for a massive leap forward.

– The narrators did a great job. I could have done without the other sound effects though. In my opinion they take away from the story.

– Lastly – No one would kill themselves thousands of times to escape a game with realistic pain settings. So roughly they would have to kill themselves around 9,360 times…. (even if they died instantly)

The book is okay overall, there were times I would lose interest in the story. A great book will grabs your mind and curiosity so you can’t wait to see what happening next – That isn’t this book. It’s a just a story.

P.S. – I also experienced overlapping dialogue and there were a few chapters that had gaps in the audio/missing paragraphs.
