I really wanted to like this book, but it’s honestly so boring and borderline stupid. The book tries to be clever, witty, and funny, but it comes off as repetitive, cringy and dumb. The first 14 chapters were the worst – asolutely nothing happens that couldn’t have been reduced to three chapters. Chapter 1: we meet Emily, the princess, and learn about how she dubs Sir Crabby and then the BBG shows up and the good guys try to escape into a portal. Ok, so far so good. The story and characters are interesting and if the rest of the book is like this, we’re in for a good time. Chapter 2-13: A bunch of errors messages from the system, the gods being upset by the error messages and complaining, more complaining by the gods, still more complaining, more error messages, some cringy crab god flirting, aaaaand still more pointless complaining by the gods about errors. Chapter 14: FINALLY Sir Crabby chooses a class and is lvl 1 and decides to actually do something. The next 10 chapters are a boring as all hell drudge of Sir Crabby learning how to do basic ass things like scuttle, while cutting back and forth to the gods and the system still doing more boring complaining. Each cut back to the gods gets more and more cringy. Sir Crabby fights 1 monster in like 10 chapters, but he’s supposed to be in this so called super dangerous dungeon? Oh my gods, this book is so boring. I gave up after chapter 29. It was just painful to keep listening. It genuinely felt like I was listening to a highschooler’s bad fanfic that ended up being about thinly veiled Mary Sue deities complaining about a bunch of nothing and this one background crab creature that also does a bunch of nothing. I’m upset I spent an afternoon listening to this book. Give me back my afternoon!
