I have enjoyed other series by this author but this one is off to a slow start for me. I liked the characters, the ranch setting and the cadre of men who make up High Mountain Trackers. The concept is interesting, there’s plenty of description of Montana’s topography, the plot sounded promising and a romance between mature characters was a big appeal. Unfortunately the author adds a lot of filler details throughout the story at the expense of the suspense because many of the crucial parts of the story are explained after the action scenes end on a disappointing cliffhanger. This book would have been so much more appealing had the author not taken so many unnecessary shortcuts. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration of Ada Sinclair and Connor Crais who did a great job. I can’t believe that the post production team mispronounced his name at the beginning and end of the book. That’s unforgivable and unprofessional and I’m offended on Connor’s behalf.
