Kudos to M. R. Forbes for writing an interesting, humorous and sometimes poignant series. His character choices for the immortals were chosen from many counties myths and lore and given enough backstory and character development to make them interesting to the telling. And before I forget, Jeff Hays’ performance throughout ever-enhanced the listening experience. Normally I find special effect sound distracting but Soundbooth Theater effects were not over-done, except for Samedi’s repeated echo-y “the power of a soul for the power of a soul”.
There was a couple of open issues left unclear with the Houses and even Kirin’s fit into society but Forbes hinted that there may be a follow-on work however that was 3 years ago so it still remains uncertain. In all, I still rank the Chaos of the Covenant series at the top of my M. R. Forbes series but Ghosts & Magic is up there in the top 5.
