I’m not a above a taboo or tragic story. There are a lot of parallels I can draw between Wavys life and my own childhood, yes, including falling victim to sexual predation.
A lot of the people leaving positive reviews praise the story as “real life,” because supposedly these things happen in the rawness of how life can be. But they’re wrong. This story does not at all deliver real life. In real life the pedophiles are NOT well-meaning innocent protectors of the young. They are predators that simply know exactly what to say and do to sneakily get what they want. Targeting girls like Wavy because they are aware of their vulnerability and that they’re likely to get away with it around careless parents. To add to that, a predator would likely lose interest in his prey as she ages.
Now, if Kellan was seen as the well meaning protector only through Wavy’s eyes this would make sense. That’s how girls are groomed- to believe there is real love there. However, that’s not the case in the book. The predator is a “good guy” in every POV and aspect of the book.
I recommend anyone who enjoyed this book sincerely to seek help.
I imagine that a pedo incel would read this book a thousand times to live his fantasy. And I won’t be enjoying the same books as someone like that, would you?
