River and Darius are both sweet men. I thought this story had a gentle feel to it even with the bit of drama caused by River’s clan and even individual clan members. I felt bad that River had to deal with such a homophobic clan.
Darius who is human has a son, who I really liked, that is half bear. Though he isn’t a bear shifter, Darius had shifter friends who tried to look out for him. Both men having to deal with their own set of problems and insecurities made them seem more real, especially Darius being a recovering alcoholic. I really liked both men and am happy they found each other. The story has a few emotional parts and I liked how Darius protects what is his.
Gary Bennett did a good job, he spoke clearly and at a nice pace, but I found it hard to know who was talking at times. There are a couple scenes where there are several people talking and I had to stop and go back to re-listen which took away from my enjoyment at those times. Overall though I did like Gary Bennett and would listen to him again.
