These are the fourth to sixth books I’ve read/listened to by this author and these did not disappoint. I got these purely because I enjoyed the previous books so much. His Alt Apocalypse Series is wonderful. He has a great knack for writing believable scenarios and characters.
This trilogy follows Marcus Battle. Alone on his ranch, he’s unaware of what has happened to the rest of the country since he kills anyone who steps on his land. Finally, his survival instincts take a back seat as he allows a woman (being pursued by killers) to not only live, but he helps her. His solitude is no longer a secret, and the men who were chasing this woman belonged to the cartel that runs this section of the former USA. They’re not happy he’s avoided their notice. Add to that, he agrees to help find this woman’s son who has been captured by the cartel. Leaving his land for the first time in many years, he runs into more than just the cartel. They’re not the only ones attempting to control this area. Then there’s the wall. What and who is on the other side? Is it better or worse?
This is the ninth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Kevin Pierce ) and I would gladly listen to another. His tone, cadence and style lends perfectly to the post apocalyptic tales. I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve listened to by him. He gives each character a personality and does female voices well.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or excessive swearing. This version of society is too close to being possible. Scary.
