I confess, I was nervous going in. It seemed like the reading time was not nearly enough to wrap up everything that was still hanging.
I needn’t have worried. The pace kept up, there were a couple of twists where it was genuine unclear what would happen next or how it fit into the overall ending (only X hours left until it’s ALL over and we’re on THIS?!) , and it was a more gripping read than the previous installments.
There was, however, ONE element of the plot’s urgency factor that was so nakedly a plot device that I rolled my eyes every time it came up. I wish the author had spent a little more time effort on ruling out the obvious and basic alternatives to the book’s primary urgency source (that is, slowing down Oren’s pace a bit) Like, I’m cool with the course of events, just tell me WHY my pretty basic/obvious thought here isn’t reasonable. I won’t go into more detail to avoid spoilers.
That said, I haven’t yet read a great book without at least one glaring issue, and in the scheme of things it doesn’t take much away from the story.
Production quality is first rate as always from this team.
If you’re reading this and haven’t gotten the book, do so now. You’ll be glad you did!
