Story: Broken is the story about 20 year old Jag, who’s been running from his brutal past; escaping conversion therapy and living on a set of rules to keep himself free and safe, broken and on the brink of homelessness, he enters the club, Heaven and Hell where he auditions for Michael, the club’s owner. Michael, another man who’s broken on the inside, hasn’t been able to move forward and commit ever since his partner died but as he watches Jag move and sway on the dance floor, a bit of sparks flicker within him. Soon, Michael and Jag fall into a no strings attached fling but it doesn’t take long for Michael to fall in lust with Jag and for Jag to break his rules, the same rules that has kept him moving, surviving but not really loving and living. Despite the deep emotions Michael is feeling for Jag, Jag is silently battling his own demons, forcing him to fear more than to love, even when Michael gives Jag a reason to stay. Can love offer these two an escape to a world where it is all you need to survive and thrive, or will fear and doubt take over, causing them to remain broken.
Performance: This isn’t my first listen from Piers Ryman and like I’ve always said, I truly love listening to audiobooks who’s narrators have an accent. I don’t know what it is but it draws me in. Although he didn’t do much to differentiate between the two MCs, it didn’t throw me off since the author titled the chapters between Michael and Jag. I enjoyed Piers’ narration.
Overall: Broken by Colette Davidson is an age-gap, mm romance, angst romance that delivers steamy scenes, dancing, poles and although it’s a HFN (insert sobs) it’s worth it. I can’t wait for what’s next! Happy listening all!
