The second adventure of Morgan Rook is intriguing, dark and unputdownable…:) I liked the first book in the series, though I thought the pace of the story was a bit uneven. This installment, however, takes you on a fast ride and never slows down.
This time Morgan has to find out why there are people going missing around a small town of Copperwood Falls. It’s a good thing he has a task to do as the Organization seems to have a problem with his latest job at the Asylum – it’s probably better for him to get away from their radar for a while. And so Morgan goes undercover – and as ususal he gets himself into much more than he expected…
Morgan Rook is one of those characters readers love – complex, sometimes confusing, with a lot of secrets in his past that he himself is unaware of. There is a lot of grey to him, but there is also moral strength that has kept him on the good side – so far… And though we may have thought we knew all there was to know about him in the first book, we realize as we follow him in this case that there is definitely much more in store for us to discover about him…
The imagery and the storytelling by Kit Hallows is very cinematic, and the first person narration makes the story even more engaging. Shawn Compton’s interpretation adds another layer to the experience – he doesn’t read Morgan’s story, he IS Morgan Rook telling you about his adventures:) It’s a perfect interpretation of the book.
