Wow. This book was written in 2017, but it’s ripped from the headlines. Rick is a writer and loner who’s disturbed by rioting and civil unrest in Michigan. It all starts with an incident with the police. It sounds like the story of 2020. He’s looking for a place to bug out, and meets Tina. They fall in love. Tina has a dog named Opus. Opus steals the story. While this is a story about a man disturbed by what’s going on around him, it’s also a sweet love story. Tina and Rick are the cutest. And the bond they form with an older couple, Sarge and Annette, feels a void that is missing in everyone’s life. This is not your stand EMP/PA story. It’s more of a story about people and the relationships that matter the most. There are bad things that happen to the characters, but in spite this, there’s the best of humanity. Can’t wait for book 2.

One cannot say enough about Kevin Pierce. When paired with Craven, he’s at his best. Just like he is with Tom Abrahams, Ryan Schow, Franklin Horton, and Jack Hunt, to name a few. He’s the voice of the apocalypse. It just doesn’t get better.
