The series keeps getting better and better. This is definitely the darkest of the series so far. I do recommend listening to this series in order as each story builds on the previous book. This book is centered around Richard and Claire. Richard has supposedly been away for the last 3 years on an assignment, but in reality- he has been in an insane asylum. His father put him there as punishment. His father is a piece of work, which you will already know if you have followed the series. Richard was severely beaten and abused in the asylum and is determined to seek revenge on the people who hurt him. He has planned his revenge for 3 years. Claire is the sister of one of his abusers, and initially, he plans to torture and kill her as revenge. So, he kidnaps her and puts her into a room sized glass cage. Yep, he is a dark soul. The next book is the final of the series.
