A family consisting of two brothers, sister, and uncle are on a midnight flight from Seattle to Washington D.C. to attend their father’s/brother’s funeral. As they travel cross-country passengers see flashes of light, huge explosions, and ultimately several mushroom clouds lighting the sky towards the eastern coast. Naturally terror and panic ensues as the meaning of these sights sink in. The accompanying EMP strikes, the plane loses all power and is forced to crash-land as jet liners are not known to glide so well. Our family survives the crash, only to find themselves in the midst of a nuclear war! It is here that the true story begins. Druga has spun a compelling and emotional tale of family love, strength, and unity under the direst circumstances. Prior to this flight, distance and minor annoyances may have come between them over the years. All this must be put aside now in order to work together, gaining strength from their family bond, and together face the day-to-day challenges that this global disaster puts before them. We also get a brief glimpse of our government’s procedures regarding Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Government Readiness Conditions (COGCON) should a disaster such as this ever befall us. My only negative is that I think the book deserved a different ending. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
