I’ve never seen Firefly, and from others reviewing here, I’d say that’s a good thing; otherwise I might have come into listening to this with expectations and been disappointed.

I can honestly say, with great joy that this book series reminded me of one of my favourite anime series, Cowboy Bebop. The main character of the Mobius was Spike from Bebop in many aspects, and during several times listening, I was picturing spike in my head while they were describing Carl. The whole series felt like it played out as if it were a great well tuned anime series.

I don’t think the author was trying to create an actual sequel to Firefly, but something that captures you in the same way, so I think some people have felt mislead. But to in with an open mind and enjoy it for what it is.

I started out hating the narrator… but quickly started to appreciate his talent, and after the first mission (book), really enjoyed what he added to the characters.

Some people have said that they gave up half way through, but let me tell you, it’s worth sticking through till the end. I listened to it at work over a two week time period, and was looking forward to getting back into the world to find out what happened next. And with 80+ hours spread over 16 missions plus a couple of short stories thrown in, you really get to know the crew. I think what may have thrown some people up, would be a major shakeup of the feel of the middle of the book, as you do see quite a change in the cast and crew. The author does a great job of bribing these new characters to make them feel like they belong in the story.
