Read like someone who never figured out the “show, don’t tell”

There were a lot of repeating phrases and scenes. The overall story had interesting parts, even if it was predictable. If some of the of the repeating scenes, as well as some of the parts reiterating scenes that we as readers could infer from the actions of characters, had been replaced with text of worldbuilding and explaination of magic, then I would have enjoyed this more.
