I could tell early on that this book was really good. The people complaining about the main character whining are talking about the fact that he doesn’t exactly want to do things a necromancer does but does it anyway. These people are likely fans of dark characters or anti-heroes and want the main character to fully embrace it fully. However, the situation in the book is that he doesn’t choose the class, he is given it. He just decides to go through with the class rather than become a nobody. With that in mind it makes sense that he doesn’t want to do certain things and is more considerate of where he crosses moral lines. He is not really an anti-hero or a bad guy, so he doesn’t really fit the role as much as I’m sure those people would want. He is more of an outcast who wants to do good in the world around him by helping people. Regardless the book is really entertaining and done well. It’s near the top of the list for me along with some other authors.
