I feel this first book could have been better. The only reason I pushed through it was to get to the second book where Nick Podehl was narrating. Jeff actually does an amazing job despite the story. I felt it was too rushed and the writer was just another wanna be writer trying his hand at LitRPG because he was a gamer.

Then I got to the second book to see if Nick would make it better since the rating is so high on this series. I was disappointed the first half hour… then, the story took a turn and everything fell into place and worked. It wasn’t because of Nicks narration. William finally got through introductions of characters and how the system worked. Then a real story started to form and I was hooked.

So if you try this series out. Give it to the middle of the second book.
