Franklin Horton’s book The Borrowed World (1st book in The Borrowed World series) hits all the right beats needed for a successful survival novel. A ‘spectacular’ terrorist attack sends America into total chaos, decimating the power grid and refining capabilities of the country. From there we follow two connected stories and see what happens when regular everyday society breaks down. One story revolves around a group of coworkers who are several hundreds of miles away from home at a work related conference when the attacks hit and must find a way to get home. The other main story deals with the family of one of those workers as they try to fortify their home.
Kevin Pierce once again does a spectacular job of narration. I always enjoy Kevin’s work and IMO Pierce’s narration + a good survival story = gold.
