Pre-DooDoo hits the Fan, Marcus Battle, an almost Lt Col and Prepper extraordinaire gets gas lease in perpetuity on 50 acres of scrub in Texas, has 4 massive gas-fired freezers, a huge back up generator, 27 tons of food, guns, frozen water, a farm, huge barn with stuff and hates mankind with a sour bitterness. He is kind of a self-centered friendless prick. A supposed man of faith, he displays little of his purported Christianity. He gets worse when wife and young son are removed. But what drives me nuts is how much he sucks at being an infantryman who served Syria, Afghanistan, Teheran, and Mars. Ok not Mars but a guy with so much GI Joe Action Time in the Sandbox, Been there, done that he must have multiple TBIs because he forgets his weapons all the time, leaves them outside, drops them, doesn’t reload, doesn’t carry a knife, and despite all the electronic junk, clearly hasn’t paced off the farm or set up fields of fire. This reads like the author was asking somebody military questions and was getting crappy info. The narrator is good. He conveys the bitterness and lack of kindness in Almost Lt Col Battle’s heart well. But I think I’ve heard enough. I’m passing on the rest of the series. I think I’ll listen to the Curé of Ars who signed the petition to get rid of himself instead. Now that’s a self-effacing guy.
