Narration is fine if a bit melodramatic but the story is a kind of trope vomit of YA schlock in a wuxia novel skin. Hero is a misunderstood bullied outcast who preserveres by not giving up in a society stacked against him, etc.
This society doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense under any kind of scrutiny however and really seems contrived merely so the protagonist can be an outcast. All in all it’s just not that good but that’s what free with audible subscription gets you I suppose.
