The author is more concerned about his political views than the story. The setup includes blaming national healthcare, the social safety net, and lack of “Christian” values for his world’s decline. I felt it was a bit much if the story is about dealing with an economic collapse, to try and include that level of morality (essentially blaming any reader who disagrees) as the setup to the story.
