I listened to the audio version of this book. This was my first by this author and it was different enough to stand out for me. The Arabic sounding music used to distinguish change in time or place was a very nice extra. The characters were all very different, but all intriguing. Kahn’s accent for each was very good.

The story takes place over a period of time when the U.S. was ramping up in response to the terror attack on the Twin Towers and the others that took place that day. Although the characters all signed on for different reasons, the result was the same–they were in harms way in the name of their country. The book gently explored the way music can make lives better and even help us get through a war.

I’ll have to admit that the author almost lost me at one point. There is a very small segment of the book in which one of the characters is captured by Iraqis and tortured. I don’t do torture and almost quit, but Ms. Kahn kept it brief enough to make it doable for me.

The story kept me listening and eager to hear what happened next. Warrior Music may have been slightly out of my comfort zone, but I’m very glad I read it.

I was given this audio book by the author/narrator. All thoughts are my own.
