Now I normally don’t leave reviews, but I felt this particular story was so poorly written that it was worthy of one. Now I didn’t finish the whole book, but I got to chapter 24 out of 33. The amount of unrealistic things that happen in this story completely ruin it for me. For example, just hours after the EMP hits people are already looting, murdering, setting up blockades on the road. Really? That early in the story? On day one? Also the amount of cringey, blatantly inept decisions made by the main characters that are trying to escape to their destination makes it hard for me to listen to. The main character that is supposedly semi prepared for this event and starts off with the mindset that, he is going to be logical and not compassionate, but quickly falls apart. I’m guessing the author did that by design, to show case how plans can change, but the decisions the main character starts making are completely irrational. There is so many random things in this story that the author places emphasis on for no reason. For one, he writes a whole chapter about a woman who has already accepted her fate and just offs herself in the single chapter that was written about her. Also I don’t think the author really knows what an EMP is, since apparently brand new high tech SUVs will work perfectly after the event, except for the radio of course. I don’t know why but in the later chapters, the author starts saying that it is the “apocalypse” over and over again. Um yeah, we get it, that’s why most of us are reading this book. The whole time I was listening to this book, I wash poking holes in the plot rather than listening to the story. This is really disappointing as I saw that this book had its own 8 book series and I was going to listen all of them, but after this horrid beginning, I’m going to have pass.
