Over the course of the series we have learned that the dry links, Rome, and Alice refuse to just sit back and allow the adults take over the stories. The children already want to help and make everything good for everybody. So when Carmen decides to tell a story about Valentine’s Day the children feel that it is their duty to help save a Valdier Warrior because everybody should have a whole heart.
This story is Phoenix’s coming out party. Phoenix is the one that decides to go to Earth and help the Lonely Woman fix the Valdier Warrior’s Heart. She is the one that has the gift to open up a portal and order for her and her friends to go through. She is also the one who realizes how close she was to losing her mother and she is one that actually saves her. If I didn’t love Phoenix already this story solidifies it for me. She is just an amazing character and I really cannot wait to see where S.E. Smith takes her.
The guys as well or great addition to the story. They are completely and utterly funny and are just big kids. When we are first introduced to each of the men individually they seemed as though they were lacking a child’s enthusiasm. Now that they are mated and have children of their own you can see how much having the other half means to them and how much they would do anything to keep a hold of that sensation. Paul of course is funny. Paul just seems to be everybody’s daddy and I’m pretty sure Mora is a lot easier to deal with then these grown men.
I will continue to gobble up and listen to every single story that Susan Smith decides to put out. She is simply amazing and all her books are funny and heartwarming and just makes you want to be happy. Of course David Brenin is amazing as well. I just love the voices that he gives to all his characters. So swoon worthy.
