When I am between series releases and looking for a new start, I am willing to try about anything. Anymore, anything created in partnership with Soundbooth theater will get me to finish a book 1 – regardless of how uninteresting I find the premise. Jeff and Annie have now been the inspiration that lead me to finding two of my favorite series. So firstly, if it’s got SBT on the audio…just do it. They have changed the industry of narration.
Secondly, I genuinely feel that this is a great example of an Author writing a progression fantasy and putting the work in to progress in his/her craft along with the story. This story really didn’t interest me in book 1, but the charming and funny writing (along with incredible production value) kept me coming back. Now by book 5 I feel the thrills and suspense that I associate with some of the great books in the fantasy genre. Plot dev, world building, character dev, functional power systems, humor, higher stakes, a classy dose of love and romance (with hints of inspo from the world of anime)….Anyone that stuck with this story and is here for the right reasons will tell you, it’s more than worth the credits. DO IT!
