I have listened to other books from this author and he is a talented writer. This series, however, was far from his best. Sometimes I wonder if people are paid to give 5 star reviews, as I can’t see how anyone with enough intelligence to read could possibly give this series a perfect score.
I usually like the narrator, but he was a poor fit for this one. The accent he attempted only occasionally resembled Irish. Often it sounded more like eastern European, or something never heard on this planet.
The story was engaging enough for me to plow through about a book and a half, but the protagonists were so abrasive and had zero character arc. Eventually I realized I was more irritated than entertained and gave up.
