I really enjoyed the first 2/3rds of this epic adventure. There is a point where things take a turn and certain key characters begin acting in ways that I could not believe in or I felt were inconsistent with their established character. if I could break my score up. I would give the first 2/3 of the stoy 4.5~5 stars. it really scratched an itch for new stories in a universe that reminded me of Outlaw Star the anime. I have never seen firefly, I will rectify this one day, but I hear the creator was inspired by Outlaw Star. so to see the DNA come down into this book, which the author mentioned is inspired by firefly was really cool. After the turn, and you will know it when it happens. The status quo gets shaken up and I really had to grind to get through the last 1/3 of the book 2-3 stars on that. The character wrap ups were fairly satisfying. **Spoilers** I’ll just say the instance that mort is defeated is BS. I listen at 1.5 speed but it all happened too fast and I couldn’t believe he was taken out by something so trivial. he deserved a better defeat. Ramsey syndicate is where things started going down for me. I really liked Mirie (Cat woman) don’t know how her name is spelled. and I didn’t love how she just vanished from the back half of the book. Amy and Carl’s relationship, feels pretty forced initially. it could have built up better. certainly worth a credit! for sure. 60+ hours of pure fun. 20 hours of grind. Going to give some of the other compilations a shot. overall can’t complain too much about how the characters ended up. would have liked to see things from the shard of Mort’s perspective when going into the great beyond. Also don’t know what archie was thinking choosing to transition / die. Would have been good to get some insight into his thought process.
